The brand-new Peugeot 208 is a stylish and adaptable Supermini / Hatchback that has become known as a good car overall, even winning the European Car of the Year Award at the European Car of the Year Awards.

From a car that has been in production since 2012 and sold over 1.5 million cars, it is clear that it is increasingly popular among city drivers and small families especially, and now with a brand-new look as well.

Consequently, with its sleek design, advanced technology, and range of efficient engines, the 208 has really made a name for itself as a well-rounded vehicle.

In this Peugeot 208 review, we will discuss our thoughts and determine whether this hatchback is right for you.

Why Choose the Peugeot 208?

Choosing the right car can be a daunting task, but the Peugeot 208 stands out for several reasons, such as for instance:

✔ The Peugeot 208 has a modern and attractive design, both inside and out, making it stand out in the small car segment.

✔ With a range of efficient and available fuel types, such as petrol, diesel, and electric engines, the 208 offers you excellent fuel economy and range, helping to save on running costs.

✔ The interior cabin is well-designed with quality materials, providing a comfortable and pleasant environment for both you and your passengers.

✔ Its compact dimensions make it easy to manoeuvre in tight city spaces and convenient for parking.

✔ The 208 is equipped with modern technology, including a digital dashboard, touchscreen infotainment systems, semi-autonomous driving features, such as lane assist, and many connectivity features.

Exterior

The Peugeot 208 is a head-turner, thanks to its bold and dynamic design. The car features sharp lines, a distinctive front grille, and stylish LED headlights that give it a modern and sporty appearance.

Front

With a striking exterior design, The Peugeot 208 does not fail to make its presence known.

At the front, bold details are everywhere, from the sharp headlights fitted with Eco LED (from Active Premium level) or full LED technology (from Peugeot 208 GT Line level) to the striking bodywork design.

The commanding vertical LED daytime running lights, which frame the front of the car with beautiful symmetry, are also inspired by the Peugeot Instinct concept car as well.

Adding further to the design, full LED headlights come with the distinctive 3-claw design.

Three prominent front grille designs are also available according to version: chrome facets (from Active Premium level), dark chrome chequered with gloss black edge trim ( from GT level), and colour-coded chequered with gloss black edge trim (EV versions), as well.

Side Profile

In its side profile, the silhouette of the 208 comes to life with striking details such as:

  • Gloss black diamond roof (from GT) and door mirror shells that give you this nice and sporty bi-tone effect
  • Dark tinted rear side and tailgate windows (from Allure) complete with gloss black window surround (from GT)
  • Alloy wheels (depending on versions) range from 16-inch to 17-inch alloy wheels, with a choice of finishes available (according to version), including intricate diamond cut and tinted varnish detailing.
    • <p. The gloss black wheel arch extensions — standard on GT petrol and diesel versions and standard across all EV versions — reinforce the sporty style.

Rear

At the rear, the flowing silhouette of Peugeot 208 comes together beautifully with signature PEUGEOT design touches, including:

    • Rear LED ‘Claw Effect’ lighting, available in a choice of two styles (according to version) - a ‘classic’ style is available from Active Premium level whilst a more 'dynamic' 3D design features from Allure trim level
    • Gloss black rear cluster connecting strip incorporating the Peugeot lettering, framed by the rear light clusters, which further enhances the distinctive rear design
    • Twin chrome exhaust system as standard with the 1.2L PureTech 130 EAT8 S&S model
    • Rear bumper diffuser trim finished in gloss black (from Allure trim) adds further to the sports design.

All of these factors give the rear design of the 208 a very distinctive overall look.

Paint Colours

Buyers, for instance, can choose from a variety of colour options, such as for instance:

  • Faro Yellow
  • Bianca White
  • Cumulus Grey
  • Nimbus Grey
  • Nera Black
  • Elixir Red
  • Vertigo Blue
  • Pearlescent White

Alloy Wheels

The seven available alloy wheel designs also add to the car's visual appeal and can include, for instance:

  • 16" ‘Taksim’ alloy wheels
  • 16" ‘Soho’ steel wheels
  • 16" ‘Elborn’ alloy wheels
  • 17" ‘Camden’ diamond cut two-tone alloy wheels
  • 17" ‘Shaw’ diamond cut two-tone alloy wheels
  • 17" ‘Bronx’ diamond cut two-tone alloy wheels

Full LED Headlights

With its full LED headlights, which are standard from GT models and up, Light-Emitting Diode (LED) technology remains a rare feature in the car industry; however, with the Peugeot 208, this is not the case.

These full LED headlights allow you to enjoy the following benefits: LED technology consumes considerably less energy — which is especially good for the range of the electric e-208 - 50% less than halogen and 35% less than xenon technologies.

The LED technology used also gives you a whiter light for improved visibility at night; the light is also more similar to daylight, leading to reduced driver-eye fatigue and improving your safety on the whole as well.

Badging

The sculpted bonnet is also headed by the ‘208’ inscription, taking inspiration directly from the iconic Peugeot 504 & 504 Coupé.

For instance, the Lion is available with a different finish of chrome and brushed aluminium for the petrol / diesel versions or a special dichroic treatment on the EV, which changes colour from different angles.

On the side, the prominent shape of the C-pillar reminds us of the glory days of 205.

This link to their heritage is then further enhanced by the GT badging (Petrol / Diesel versions) or the ‘e’ Monogram badging (EV versions) surrounded by a notch that reminds us of the GTi badging of the 205 as well.

Interior

When you step inside the Peugeot 208, you will find a well-designed cabin that really does put an emphasis on your comfort, is very practical, and feels quite upmarket for a small car, with quality materials used throughout.

Comfort-wise, it is very comfortable, especially in the back, where taller passengers have just about enough head and leg room. This is very good for a small car, especially compared to other cars in its class.

Seats

The seats are very comfortable, offering you a good level of support, especially on longer journeys.

The seats are also very supportive, and there are plenty of adjustment options to help you find your perfect driving position easily.

Upholestery

For the upholstery options, you have 6 to choose from, including:

  • Tri-material ‘Pneuma’ and ‘Rimini’ cloth seat trim
  • Tri-material ‘Cozy’ leather effect and ‘Isabella’ cloth seat trim
  • Tri-material ‘Capy’ leather effect and ‘Isabella’ cloth seat trim
  • Nappa Mistral full grain leather seat trim
  • Tri-material ‘Mistral’ black Alcantara® and ‘Isabella’ cloth seat trim
  • Nappa Mistral full grain leather seat trim

infotainment of Peugeot 208

Infotainment System

The infotainment screen is also very responsive and user-friendly, with a touchscreen interface that allows you to control your navigation, climate control, media, and connectivity features.

It also includes features like Bluetooth connectivity, a DAB radio, and smartphone integration, so you can easily connect your phone and use apps like navigation or music streaming via Apple CarPlay and Andriod Auto, really quickly and easily as well.

High-Quality Materials

The interior materials are of high quality, giving the cabin a premium feel, especially in the higher GT trims.

Dashboard

The dashboard is also very well laid out, and everything is easy to reach, with the digital instrument panel - known as the "i-Cockpit" - being a standout feature, we thought.

It is also very clear and easy to read, and it gives the car a very futuristic feel overall.

Storage and Boot Space

The storage space is also very decent for a car of this size, allowing you to get several suitcases in the boot alone.

For instance, the door pockets are of a good size, and there’s a useful compartment in the centre console for smaller items as well.

The boot is big enough for several bags of shopping, and you get up to 309 litres to 352 Litres, with the rear seats going up to 1,118 litres of space and 1,163 Litres, with the rear seats laid flat as well.
